California is actually a “donor state;” we give more tax money to the federal treasury than we receive. So, I’m not sure what you mean by Californians making others pay for their issues. If anything, the opposite is true…

I see what you mean about it being frustrating for people of different political beliefs to swarm into one place and change the local traditional political patterns. But people can’t “leave politics at the border” anymore than you could suddenly flip blue if you moved to San Francisco. You wouldn’t do that. Neither can Californians (the blue ones anyway — actually a lot of people outside of the coast vote quite red).
